Mahadeva, Karnataka

I am Mahadeva, 52 years old from Village Hunisinalu, Nanjangud Taluk, Karnataka. I live with my wife, parents, and 3 siblings in this village. During my childhood, when I was affected with polio, my parents who are illiterate had not supported me with required medical facility as they were orthodox and poor.

In 1985, when my disability was assessed through Women and Child Development Department and Mysore District Rehabilitation Centre, I got my medical certificate along with a monthly allowance of Rs 125 which gradually increased to Rs.600 over the years. This helped me, but the amount was barely adequate to sustain my daily living.

In January 2021, I saw a ray of hope when ADD India identified me and supported me to get my UDID card for my disability. From then onwards my monthly allowance increased to Rs 1200. I also received Rs 2500 under 5% grant from Kudlapura Gram Panchayath using which, I have purchased sheep and rearing it successfully. Now I can say that with the help and support from my family, the DPO and ADD India, I have grown financially and am independent. Me and my wife as well as my family are really satisfied and happy.
