34-yr old T lives in Sidlaghatta Taluk of Karnataka, home to one of the largest silk markets in the country. She is polio affected. A tailor by profession, T was always keen to learn computer skills, but financial constraints and her family situation dissuaded her from signing up for a course. When she heard of the free digital literacy training at the NDLM Centre in Sidlaghatta, she saw it as a welcome opportunity. Today T can type in text editors such as wordpad and notepad, and is able to use the internet with ease. She googles blouse patterns for design inspiration. Now that she is digitally literate, her family which is engaged in the silk industry seeks her assistance in looking up daily silk market prices. T also uses the internet for other functional purposes such as paying bills through paytm, booking tickets on redbus etc.

Digital Empowerment:

ADD India set up the NDLM Centre in Sidlaghatta in partnership with NASSCOM Foundation and with the support of #Infosys BPM. Till date, over 500 persons with disabilities have received digital literacy training at the centre.
